Energy communities arise from the opposition to macro-projects, i.e. the agglomeration of solar modules in a certain space that allows the absorption of as much energy as possible in the smallest space. While community energy is the answer to this refusal, why aren’t they moving forward?<\/p>\n
Community energy should have been recognised more than a year ago, but the Spanish government has not taken a position and therefore has not recognised a legal framework to protect these communities. Abel Porras, a member of the Cooperativa Energ\u00e9tica, said that the project has stalled, despite its potential: “There is great pressure from the electricity companies to put the brakes on shared self-consumption and energy communities”. Energy communities can be a solution, not only for shared self-consumption among those who form part of the energy communities, but also as a way of saving and using alternative energy on a cyclical basis.<\/p>\n
Despite the interest of local councils and citizens, projects in southern Europe are at the same point.
